Best Air-Gapped and On-Prem AIOps Platforms in 2026

For defense, government, sovereign cloud and regulated banking, AIOps has to run where the data cannot leave. Many vendors say on-prem; far fewer run their full intelligence air-gapped. Here is an honest look at the real options in 2026.
Why the air-gapped conversation is different from an on-premises one
Many platforms will happily discuss on-premises deployment; far fewer can genuinely operate in an environment that has no outbound network path at all. The difference matters because a lot of what makes modern AIOps useful (the machine-learning models, the update pipeline, the correlation catalogue, sometimes even the underlying data platform) is designed around a persistent connection to a vendor cloud. Take that connection away and much of the value goes with it. Air-gapped AIOps is the small subset of the market that continues to work with the connection removed, and the shortlist should be filtered on that specific requirement rather than on the broader on-premises story.
The five questions to ask every vendor before you trust their air-gapped claim
- Does the AI itself run inside the perimeter, or does the platform call a cloud model? If the answer is 'cloud model with encrypted transport', it is not air-gapped, no matter how strong the encryption.
- Does the self-hosted tier include the newest features, or a reduced set? Many vendors ship their leading capabilities in SaaS first and backport them slowly (or not at all) to on-prem. Ask specifically which features are excluded.
- Can the platform execute governed remediation air-gapped, not only visualise telemetry? A tool that shows you what is wrong but cannot act on it inside the boundary is not a full AIOps tool in an air-gapped context; it is a dashboard.
- How does the update model work? Signed offline artifacts moved through the same controlled process the operator uses for other software is the pattern that fits classified and sovereign environments. Anything requiring outbound connectivity fails accreditation.
- How is the audit trail exported? Air-gapped environments still have to produce evidence for oversight bodies. The audit format the platform emits has to fit the accreditation process the operator is already inside, without requiring bespoke tooling.
The shortlist
The list is ordered by whether the full autonomous capability runs inside the perimeter, not by which vendor's marketing says 'on-prem'. Detection quality matters, but it is not the differentiator here; the differentiator is whether the platform still delivers autonomous, governed resolution when the internet is not available.
Opstral
Best for: Autonomous resolutionAutonomous, governed resolution across ten operational domains. It does not just detect and route; ProcBot executes the fix and Sherlock validates it before close, with every action a reversible, audited Action Ticket. Runs SaaS, on-premises or fully air-gapped.
Explore the platform →Dynatrace
Best for: Causal root causeDeep, automatic causal root-cause analysis via Davis across a fully mapped topology. Best when understanding exactly why something broke is the priority; the newest AI is SaaS-only.
Read the comparison →Splunk ITSI
Best for: Service-health predictionService-health scoring, prediction and episode grouping on the Splunk data platform. Powerful for committed Splunk shops; now part of Cisco and assumes data is centralised in Splunk.
Read the comparison →Elastic Observability
Best for: Search-heritage observabilityObservability on the Elastic Stack, with strong logs and search heritage and self-hostable deployment.
Prometheus + Grafana
Best for: Open metrics stackThe de-facto open-source, self-hostable metrics and dashboards stack. Ubiquitous and free, but you assemble correlation and remediation yourself.
Frequently asked questions
What does air-gapped actually mean for AIOps?
It means the platform, including the AI model and the remediation engine, runs entirely inside your network with no dependency on external services, so data never leaves and the system still works with no internet access.
Do observability platforms count as air-gapped AIOps?
Only partly. Several can self-host their observability layer, but their newest AI or data platform is often SaaS-only. Opstral runs its full autonomous resolution capability air-gapped.
Which industries most commonly buy air-gapped AIOps?
Defence and intelligence at the strictest end, then government agencies handling citizen or classified data, then regulated banking (where certain core systems are ring-fenced from any external network), then telecom carriers whose core networks are national infrastructure, then sovereign-cloud operators and critical-infrastructure providers. In every case the underlying driver is the same: data cannot leave the perimeter, and the operations platform has to work anyway.
Can we start with an on-premises deployment and move to air-gapped later?
Yes. The Opstral platform is the same in both postures; the difference is whether the environment has any outbound path. Teams that start on-premises with the option to disconnect later, or that operate a mix (air-gapped for one class of estate, on-premises for another), commonly do exactly this. The audit trail, action model and update mechanism are identical.
How does the audit trail work when we can never send data out?
The audit trail lives inside the perimeter, in a format the operator's own compliance or accreditation process can consume. Export happens via the same controlled channel the operator already uses for other regulated data, on the operator's schedule. There is no automatic exfiltration to a vendor cloud.
